Charles Kohler and John Calvin Campbell formed an important partnership in New York in 1896.
Kohler was a piano maker that was also well-versed in business and factory management while Campbell was a machinist that was responsible for inventing a variety of machines.
More recently, Kohler & Campbell has been owned and operated by the Korean parent company Samick.
Kohler & Campbell’s KIG48 is a unique petite grand piano. With its diminutive 4’8” length, it is even several inches smaller than a baby grand piano.
It is packed with impressive features that include a 100% spruce core soundboard, a traditional sand cast plate, an all maple action with an aluminium rail, German Roslau strings, agraffes in the bass and tenor sections, and a 16-ply cross-laminated American hard rock maple pin block.
The combination of these ingredients leads to a pleasing tone and wide dynamic range that allows the KIG48 to greatly outperform its size musically.
This particular KIG48 was manufactured in 1991.
It is finished in a timeless polished ebony. It has a clear, musical voice and an articulate touch.
Like virtually all Kohler & Campbell pianos, its tuning stability and durability are quite impressive and well-suited for the constantly shifting Canadian climate.
This is the perfect piano for a customer that has always dreamed of owning a grand piano but requires as small a footprint in the home as possible.
