William Knabe established his piano firm in Baltimore, USA in 1839. It did not take Knabe pianos to become well-established. Consequently, the company was absorbed and became part of a larger musical instrument conglomerate. In the year 2000, the Knabe company was acquired by the South Korean musical instrument giant Samick Music Corporation. In 2011, Samick made the decision to divide the Knabe grand pianos into three lines: Baltimore (WG models), Academy (WMG models), and Concert (WKG models).
This used Knabe WG48 is a 4’8” petite grand piano from the company’s Baltimore line, which is made in Indonesia under the supervision of Knabe’s parent company Samick Music Corporation. The WG48 piano features a laminated spruce soundboard, 16-ply maple pin block, German Roslau strings, maple action with aluminium action rail, and hard rock maple bridges. It is clear from this impressive list of components that the company has gone to impressive lengths to provide a truly high-quality and finely-crafted instrument, while still maintaining an accessible price point to the consumer.
Given its diminutive size, this polished mahogany WM Knabe WG48 grand is the perfect solution for piano players and enthusiasts who are looking for the musical benefits and aesthetic qualities that a grand piano provides, but have minimal floor space in their home.
