Standing at 49”, the Used Kawai KS-2F upright piano is an incredibly capable musical companion that offers its player impressive dynamic control and capability as well as a markedly warm tone throughout the entire range of the instrument. Many customers shopping for Japanese instruments will often compare Kawai’s pianos to Yamaha’s U series. Where Yamaha pianos are notorious for their bright sound, Kawai pianos offer a much warmer and darker voice, which makes it a more suitable instrument for classical music performance.
This KS2F piano was built in 1983 and, like most Kawai pianos manufactured during the 80s, has aged quite well and retained its playability and tone rather impressively. It’s taller scale allows for long bass strings and a large soundboard, which, in combination, provides a beautifully rich, warm sound. The bass register in particular is extremely clear even when playing at the more extreme ends of the dynamics spectrum.
While its price makes it an attractive option for a beginner student or family in search of their first piano, the larger height, responsive action, and music capability of this Kawai KS2F makes it an appropriate instrument for even more advanced levels.
Koichi Kawai was an integral member of the Nippon Gakki Company (later renamed the Yamaha Corporation) research and development team that first introduced pianos to Japan. However, upon the company deciding to diversify its product line outside of musical instruments, Koichi Kawai decided to leave the Nippon Gakki Company in 1927 and launch the Kawai Musical Instrument Research Laboratory. Ever since, Kawai has been fully committed to refining its designs on its quest to manufacture the perfect piano.
