Used Kawai KG3 – Built in Japan in 1978
Used Kawai KG3 Grand Piano
The Kawai Piano Company was started in the 1920’s in Japan with the idea of one day creating one of the largest and highest quality piano factories in the world. By the 1970’s Kawai has a production of almost 50,000 pianos per year. Kawai and Yamaha are currently the only piano manufactures that still build pianos in Japan and both have an excellent reputation. The Kawai KG-series was released in early 1970’s and was considered the first modern designed grand pianos from Kawai.
The Kawai KG3 at 6’1″ is a perfect size for home and studio used and in the 1980’s became very popular. In 1995 the Kawai KG series was replaced with the RX series which uses a thicker hardwood frame, better quality hammers, and a more even scale design. Used Kawai KG3 pianos are still a very popular choice and offer a good alternative to a new RX2 at a much lower price point.
Used Kawai KG3 pianos in Toronto sell for between $10000 – $18,000 depending on age, condition and service history. When purchasing any used piano even as well regarded as the used Kawai KG3, it’s worth having an expert opinion of a piano technician or true expert. Most people don’t realize that unlike violins and guitars, pianos don’t last forever and usually have a lifespan of 25 – 50 year. This used Kawai KG3 piano has another 15 or 20 year of life before any major components like the tuning pins and strings need to change.
