With roots dating back to 1794, Ibach was once the oldest family-owned and operated piano manufacturer on the planet. The company’s German factory in Rhineland continued its operation until 2007. After that, the Ibach name was purchased by Feurich and the production of Ibach pianos was moved to Ningbo, China. Utilizing some of the excellent designs and specifications from the company’s past, the modern Ibach pianos are still impressive instruments that are well-built.
The Ibach 186 model is a 6’2” parlour grand with massive musical output and dynamic potential. While the 6’ benchmark is a popular choice due to the bass response it offers, the Ibach 186’s bass register is even more powerful and clear than what one might expect. This is combined with a well-balanced middle register and an extremely colourful treble section to make a truly rewarding musical experience. It should be said that the 186 model’s action is also quite precise, responsive, and rewarding to play.
This Ibach 186 grand is finished in ebony polish. This traditional ebony finish is complemented by a beautiful inner rim with vertically-running grain. Musically, this piano is a powerhouse with a lot to offer tonally and dynamically, which can be attributed to the classic 186 cm German scale design. All-in-all, this Ibach would make a wonderful companion to an intermediate or advanced player looking for a beautiful grand piano with a European voice.
