The Kawai RX2 Grand Piano:
First released in 1995, the Kawai RX series was the first mass-produced instrument with a true hardwood inner-rim, a carbon fiber action, and was the predecessor to the Shigeru Kawai line that was released in 2000. It took a couple of years for the piano technician and teaching community to get on board, but after a couple of years on the market the RX series over took the Yamaha C series as the top reviewed mass produced line of pianos in the world. Recently Kawai released the GX series which although shares some things in common with the RX series, is was designed with a slightly longer key action, and a different pinblock design. This will not replace Kawai’s RX series, but will be position between it and the Shigeru line of hand-made instruments.
The Kawai RX2 grand piano is the most popular model for the RX line. At 5’10” in length and due to it’s hardwood frame construction, the Kawai RX2 can be used is even a larger venue or a small home. The Kawai RX2 is known for it’s rich and full bass, responsive action, and exceptional tuning stability. You can sometimes find used Kawai RX2 grand pianos but it is rare to find one in good shape for a reasonable price.
