Background on Korg Digital
The Korg company was started in 1962 just outside Tokyo Japan. The company immediately began specializing in digital instruments, and quickly moved to the production of keyboards and organs. Korg digital pianos and other instruments have, from the beginning, been highly respected by musicians for their innovation, their sound quality, and their construction quality. Korg specifically has always been a pioneer in the area of synthesis, being the first to combine synthesis and sampling technology.
Korg and Yamaha had a close partnership for many decades, with Yamaha supplying parts to Korg and at one point actually purchasing a healthy portion of the company. Although that ownership has shifted back to entirely Korg-controlled hands, there is still technology sharing which exists between the two.
Korg’s M1 synthesizer workstation was the best-selling synthesizer of all time, with more than 250,000 units sold, and their Triton, Kronos, Krome, and Oasis lines receiving substantial acclaim in the music business. Their entry into the digital piano market has been marked with three extremely successful models, the SP170, SP250, and LP350. Merriam Pianos is proud to represent Korg and their line of digital pianos.
