HISTORY AND BACKGROUND
Yet another piano manufacturer owning its origins to the city of Leipzig, Irmler was founded in 1818 by German native Johann Christian Gottlieb Irmler. After more than a century of successful piano building, including awards, medals, and a royal appointment, the Irmler factory, like many other German piano factories, was completely destroyed in WWII. The Irmler family tried to rebuild in the aftermath of the war during the Russian occupation of Germany but were unsuccessful.
The Irmler brand remained dormant for almost 50 years until it was re-established in 1999 under a partnership with Bluthner. This partnership essentially allows Bluthner three distinct positions in the marketplace between the Bluthner, Haessler, and Irmler brands.
Irmler currently manufactures uprights and grands in two levels of quality. The entry-level Studio Edition and upgraded Professional edition. The studio series uprights and grand pianos are manufactured in China and shipped to Germany for installation of Abel hammers and Renner actions (grands) before final inspection. Studio series uprights are offered in three sizes; the 44” P112, 46.5” P118 and the 49” P125. Studio series grand pianos are offered in four sizes; the 4’10” F148, 5’3” F160, 6’2” F188 and the 7’ F213.
The Professional series uprights and grands are entirely assembled in Germany. While the strung-backs are supplied by Samick from their Indonesian facility, many of the other components are European in origin, such as solid spruce soundboards and Delignit pin-blocks. Professional series uprights are offered in three sizes; the 46” P116E, 48” P122E, and the 52” P132E. Professional series grands are offered in five sizes; the 5’3” F160E, 5’9” F175E, 6’3” F190E, 6’10” F210E, and the 7’6” 230E.
