It is so easy to get lost in the internet today. You can listen to music on facebook, bandcamp, myspace (who still uses myspace?), youtube and tons of different music apps. You can spend hours clicking link after link listening to your favourite tunes. If not that, you can so easily download any record that you could possibly want off iTunes, or just pop a CD in and listen to your favourite songs all in the comfort of your bed. As easy as all of this is, it will NEVER compare, or replace going to see a live show.
When you go to see a band or artist live, there is a whole energy about the experience. Instead of sitting in your room in your underwear with earbuds in, you are inside a venue full of like-minded, energetic, excited music fans who are all their for the same reason, to experience music being created for them, by someone who inspires them in one way or another.
As an audience member, you become involved in the show, feeding off the energy of the band/artist, likewise, the performers feed off of the crowd. As a musician, you pick up on different techniques, tricks, and nuances used by of other musicians. It is a learning experience to watch life music.
Another reason that going to see live shows is great, is the openers. When you go to see a band, there are usually opening bands, weather they be local openers, or a touring support band, there is usually an act you are unfamiliar with, maybe never even heard of. I have personally been to many shows where this is the case, and that band has either blown me away, or turned out to be one of the next huge up and comers! Your musical tastes, (and iTunes library), expands every time.
There are many reasons to go and see live music, weather you are a musician, or simply a music lover. Find out who is going to be in town, get a few friends together and experience it for yourself. I can promise that you will not be disappointed.
