Mason & Hamlin

When the Burgett brothers, owners of Pianodisc, bought Mason & Hamlin Pianos in 1996 with the dream of restoring Mason to its former supremacy in the American Piano industry, they could not have imagined the response that awaited them. Musicians and technicians across Canada and the US have not simply welcomed Mason back into the fold, but embraced and celebrated the pianos as being the most consistent, solidly-built, and musically capable instrument in America. In fact, in 2010 of all of the pianos discussed on pianoworld.com (the world’s largest forum for technicians and piano owners), Mason had the highest number of posts per unit sold of any manufacture. Additionally, doubts of how well Mason & Hamlin would compete in the marketplace against the ever-saavy NY Steinway have proven to be unfounded: every single consumer guide available in 2011 has chosen to rate the “Mason’s” in exactely the same quality category, and have even gone so far as to credit them as being the most well-crafted piano in America, and amongst the top few in the world.
Upon the release of Mason’s newest redesign, we at Merriam had an opportunity to see and try them at the NAMM show in California. We at once recognized the magic that that Mason had managed to inject into this new line of instruments, and immediately contacted them. We are incredibly proud to have Mason in our lineup, adding a unique elegance and strength of tone that is increasingly becoming as well known in North America as they were in the Golden Age of pianos.
