Kawai

T
he Kawai Digital Piano lineup is one of the most comprehensive and critically acclaimed in the industry. Their class-leading 5-year warranties, their 100% gravity driven actions (no springs or coils to wear down), and their incredibly rich and dynamic piano tone have become the hallmarks of the brand. Kawai’s formula for its digital pianos mirror those of its venerable acoustic department:
- build durable products which outlast the competition
- provide a truly musical experience, regardless of price point
- never sacrifice performance in place of features or ‘frills’
- provide leading warranty coverage and impeccable dealer support
Merriam is pleased to offer the CL, KDP80, CN, CA, and CP home digital piano lines, as well as the ES6, MP6, and MP10 portable/stage pianos.
CL26
The CL26 is probably the most musically capable digital piano in the industry in the starter-category. It features a crisp, accurate feel that will please any teacher, and a speaker capacity almost double it’s next closest rival. Additionally, it uses hard-wood ply for it’s structure, vs. some of the lighter MDF, which means it’s physical strength will give you years of enjoyment. This is one of our best-selling products of all-time, and should be a consideration for any family or student who is looking for an affordable instrument to get started with.
KDP80
The KDP80 (Canada ONLY) from Kawai combines the furniture quality, 3 pedal feature, and sound-set of the CN23, with the key action, sound processor, and value of the CL26. For customers who are looking for a starter piano with a traditional cabinet, without sacrificing quality, the KDP80 is a unique and compelling answer. Whether it’s your son or daughter’s first instrument, or you’re just looking for a capable, casual way to enjoy the piano in a smaller space or cottage, we’re sure you’ll agree this is an unbeatable junction of function and quality.
CN23
A professional piano in a simple package. The CN23 features Kawai’s All-New AHA-IV action, using the gravity-only action that has received rave reviews. The CN23 features prominently in several familiar music schools both in Toronto, and throughout North America, and the first in Kawai’s lineup to include it’s full Harmonic Imaging modelling engine. An ideal choice for the intermediate player looking for a great feeling, straight-ahead piano.
CN33
The CN33 builds on the CN23 by increasing speaker capacity and quality, and dramatically expanding the feature set. With close to 50 sounds on board, plus recording capability, the CN33 is a very full experience, still for less than the least expensive acoustic piano. The complexity of the harmonics on this piano, when you compare to any other piano at it’s price point, is nothing short of impressive, and even for an advanced player, the CN33 provides a musical, credible experience. It’s a customer favorite!
CA63
Very few digital pianos can stack up to an acoustic piano, and those that do are often priced in the near-stratosphere – enter the CA63. It packs a number of specific features which make it a true alternative even to a pro-level player such as its all-wood acoustic action, and the CA63 is the lowest-cost home digital from Kawai to feature it. Also onboard is a hi-fidelity amplifier and speaker system which delivers equally clear bass, mids, and trebles, through a series of 6 speakers. Add to this a full modeling engine and rich, life-like harmonics, and you’ve got a serious contender.
CA93
The first thing you’ll notice on the CA93 is the real soundboard – it’s a true solid spruce, and actually functions in the same way as on an acoustic piano. A true digital/acoustic hybrid, the CA93 is Kawai’s premium home digital, but it’s perhaps the least digital of their entire lineup. This machine simply has to be played to be believed – for the player where an acoustic is simply not an option, for reasons of sound management or constant moves, this may just be the ultimate instrument.
CP119 / 139 / 179
This series of ensemble pianos can be summed up in one word: fun. Whether you’re a budding song-writer, a professional musician in need of a powerful sequencer, or a player in need of a little ‘spice’, the CP series is a perfect union of features, quality, and ease-of-use. Yes, it has a lot of buttons; no, that doesn’t mean you won’t use 90% of the features. Why? The CP products can be learned top-to-bottom (honestly now…) in less than one hour. So you won’t have to wait through months and months of frustrating instruction manual examination – you can start having your very own band or orchestra playing alongside with you within hours of first sitting down to use it. Or, create your very first CD, or email your project to a friend to let them continue working on it. The sky is literally the limit – ask for your demo today!
MP6/MP10
Kawai has always had a small but very strong presense in the professional stage piano market. The Kawai 9000 and 9500 models are still considered to be amongst the most durable and reliable machines ever produced, and it is on this experience and reputation that the current lineup is built upon. The MP6 is a traditional master controller-style stage piano, featuring a full sound canvas, 4-zone control, record functions, and Kawai’s top AHA-IV action. It’s light-weight, sounds great, fully capable, and will give machines twice its cost a serious run for their money. The MP10 is a piano that has no real comparison. It was created in secrecy in direct collaboration with L.A.’s top studio players, and can be considered a true user-driven development. The ONLY portable digital piano in the entire industry to use a full wooden key action, the feel of the MP10 is outstanding. And instead of hundreds of sounds, you only get a few dozen. But man, those are some serious patches. We’ve heard almost every superlative in the book lobbed its way, and interest only continues to grow. It is THE portable digital piano for piano players. The days of choosing between a capable action and great sound are over!
ES6
Kawai has created a winning combination here: amazing on-board speakers, great key-action, and a nice mix of tone banks and auto-accompaniment. This is more than your average stage piano…it’s more like a full home-digital in an incredibly rugged portable package. An iPod jack, USB, 6 hi-fi speakers across the back, and a super intuitive user interface makes this a fantastic instrument for the cottage, dorm room, bedroom, or semi-professional gig use. Side-by-side sound comparisons between the ES6 and any other portable in our selection is always a daily highlight – it never fails to impress.
